Initial Conversations
There are a series of critical conversations required for those business Owners who are in the early stages in developing their exit plan. We work with Owners to identify what those conversations are, who needs to be involved and when the conversations are required.
These conversations can be relatively informal ad-hoc discussions or targeted workshops with specific agendas depending on the desired outcomes. In effect, this is the groundwork before committing to an actual succession plan or sale process, whenever that might be.
There is an informative, education element to our discussions – we provide our transaction experience and expertise, which helps to inform the Owner and other key parties. Two of the common areas of discussion are market-based and practical views on business valuation and different strategic options available to the business.
Alignment of all parties
When dealing with multiple parties, for example multiple owners and senior management, one of the key challenges is to align everyone in their thinking and their understanding so that people are confident to take the required actions towards progress. Our workshops can help to facilitate these discussions and to uncover the best options for you and the business.
One goal we have is to provide a link between the current financial position and performance of the business with the value of the business (both now and potentially in the future). Our experience is that once this is understood the Owner can make informed choices about what they would like to commit to. For example, what timetable they would like to work towards, how much of their time will be involved and what other resources and financial input will be required.
Ultimately, it is your business and your choice on what you would like to do. Our role is simply to provide an independent and experienced view of your options and we can help you to come to grips with what approach or approaches will give you the best opportunity for success.
